What to look for in a lawyer if someone was injured in your store

On Behalf of Wilbraham, Lawler & Buba, P.C. | May 10, 2024 | Premises Liability

As a store owner, you hope that no one gets hurt in your retail location. But you also know that it could happen. A customer could slip and fall and suffer a head injury, and suddenly your store is facing a major lawsuit.

This can be highly damaging, both from a financial perspective and in terms of your company’s reputation. You do have options, and it’s important to know as much as you can about the legal process. If you’re looking for a lawyer, then, what are some qualities you should seek out?

Excellent communication skills

First and foremost, you need a lawyer who is easy to communicate with and who always keeps you in the loop. You deserve to know how your case is going and to get answers to your legal questions. Ideally, you’ll have multiple ways to communicate, such as face-to-face consultations, phone calls, email messages and more.

Proven experience

Next, remember that you have a lot on the line. This is a case you need to take very seriously, and that means you need a lawyer who has experience with similar cases. They can use this experience to understand how the law or other legal precedents should apply to your case.

Someone you can trust

This is a bit harder to define, but you should find a lawyer who makes you feel comfortable and who is always honest and open when talking to you. You need to know that you can trust them to put you and your business’s interests first. That’s what you’re paying them to do.

There are always legal options that you can exercise, no matter how complex the situation seems. Just be sure that you have the right legal team for the job.
